Sirin

New artwork for Marjana Semkina’s latest record, Sirin

The Sirin is a creature from ancient Slavic mythology, and is a bird of sorrow. She sings and mourns for the woes of humankind. 

The piece depicts the Sirin mid-flight with a tear in her eye as she flies high above the earth, as her heart can no longer the bear the sadness of humankind.  The ornate is detailed in a similar to traditional Russian wood-carvings, giving the piece an authentic and folkloric naturalism.
